British Aircraft Carrier HMS Ark Royal was on a goodwill visit to Australia when unions placed a black ban on the ship over the captain's refusal to divulge whether or not she was carrying nuclear weapons. There were calls for Prime Minister Bob Hawke to apologize to the British.
