You call that a protest!
The Prime Minister of Australia Harold Holt visited Australian soldiers in Vietnam during the Anzac Day period in April. Apart from some regular army officers the young soldiers were conscripted by a ballot system based on the date of birth. The selection was made through a system where a numbered marble was literally drawn out of a barrel.
Conscription was in use in several Western nations supplying troops to support South Vietnam and there was widespread protest in response to the ballot system. In Chicago there had been a protest where demonstrators threw marbles at police on horses and ugly scenes followed.
