Enforcing a point!
In February, 1984, Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke had hosted a dinner in Tokyo to honour Japan and the Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone.
During the dinner Prime Minister Hawke mapped out areas of mutual interest and co-operation shared by Japan and Australia. During following talks trade in beef was an area of great difficulty and was not to be sorted out until 1988 when satisfactory mutual terms were finally agreed.
Inspired by a quote by the then Minister for Sport, Recreation, and Tourism, John Brown, who said Koala's are 'flea-ridden, piddling, stinking, scratching, rotten little things' after having an unpleasant encounter with one.
