An awesome task.
Labor parliamentarian Joan Kirner became the first woman Premier of
Victoria on August 10 - 1990, taking over at a time when the incumbent state Labor Government was in a great deal of trouble. She was also strong supporter of the Essendon Football Club who were facing the challenges of the season, and
became No 1 ticket holder.
Essendon made the semi-finals that year but was defeated by Collingwood. The Labor Government, still under Joan Kirner, was defeated by the Liberal Party under Jeff Kennett on the 6th October, 1992.
