The World Solar Challenge is an annual solar powered car race through the Australian Outback from Darwin to Adelaide (3,021 kms}.
Competitors use all parts and sides of the road (when safe) to maximize the intake of solar energy. Participants contribute in many ways to the development of environmental health and safe use of energy.
The idea of maximization put the Prime Minister Bob Hawke and Treasurer Paul Keating under duress as they tried to steer through the Australian economy's 17% house interest rates and pressure on wages on the cusp of the 1991-92 recession.
