New economy? New wheels?
With the Tasmanian economy experiencing a slow down, the productivity
commission was about to announce another set of findings on the performance and problems facing Australian manufacturing. Was the talk of the "new economy" that was emerging on the mainland everything it was made out to be?
At the same time, the Targa Tasmania rally was taking place. The rally is run at roughly the same time every year just for the thrill and prestige of winning one of the Targa plate trophies.
This festival race has no prize money and is run on traditional lines
of the earlier European car rallies and helps boost tourism
in Tasmania.
